Break/Fix/Break/Fix/Break/Fix

I (and by I, I mean my dad) took my computer apart and then put it back together again to figure out why it was going so UNBELIEVABLY slowly again, and not loading certain pages (coughgooglecough), and found nothing wrong.  But it's starting to chug along again.
Yes, I still can't open google reader which means it has probably exploded with the number of blogs I haven't checked yet, but everything else is working.

-Ish.

But it's working.

(-Ish.)

In related news, I've decided to grow out my hair and buy a wind machine.

It's Not So Far-Fetched, You Won't End Up On Every Don't List So....

Someone please wear this to the Oscars.
I spent all day cleaning my room and escaping the snowstorm that was outside.  Much progress was made.  I'd feel better if I could paint my room however reorganizing and re-adjusting will have to do (and it has).  Perhaps I'll have more ideas from now on.
Perhaps I'll even show you all what I've done with my books (not gonna lie - I'm a teensy bit proud).

Wise Walls Waiting For Paintings

My bedroom is miniscule.  It fits my bed, my shelves (which are nailed above my bed to the wall) and my laundry basket, with a little isle that is usually occupied by discarded clothing.
In a fit of frustration and stifled creativity (dressing and other-wise) I decided to take EVERYTHING (or as much as I could) apart and re-do it tomorrow; organization-wise.
Ideally, this change will also clear my fashion-head.  New surroundings, new output, yes?

Maybe my room will magically grow and make room for this:

MY ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE:

I'm toying with clearing out my wardrobe along with my bedroom but have to see how the day goes.  I can't buy anything new so I have to pull a makeover show move and "shop in my closet".

Crime Of Passion

My procrastination is a crime.  As is the time I spend on the internet.  Combine the two, (and pretend that I'm a boy) and you get this:

Applying to schools is frustrating and extremely costly.

Very Appropriate For 20cm of Snow

Very eventful weekend.  Started with a 24hr massive blackout (in the middle of a cold snap. -20 degrees C.  Wonderful) with no heat or electricity or computer.  Then running around doing errands, collecting transcripts, paying for said transcripts and sitting in a library for 5 hours reading and selecting plays.

Sounds so familiar.  I might as well be wearing one of these:

images collected from jak&jill and superfantasticpicturetime.

And this I found through The Foxy Man.  With accompanying appreciation for the origin of all those highly stylized sexual fetishism-inspired editorials and spreads you see popping up here and there.  I'm sure had it not been for the magazine that this and other images like it come from, this shirt would not exist.

Yuri Yasuda

I'm making up for a week's worth of nothing, can you tell?

The key is the lighting.  It is what makes one (read: me) want to imitate these looks, otherwise I would turn my back and walk away from shiny red leggings with striped legwarmers, and a studded oversized sweater.

I'm already convincing myself out of that shirtvest.  I feel it was the release of writing about it (benefit #4566 of blogging).

Wouldn't It Suck If You Tried To Get Revenge and This Happened?

Hi.  I'm sorry for the week-long hiatus but I've been exhausted.  I got back from a visit to Windsor and then worked practically every day, went christmas shopping and went to (one too many) christmas parties.
And today I worked 11 hours (Happy Boxing Day).  I'm only writing this because I have a little left over adrenaline and the last dregs of caffeine floating around in my body, but I'm fairly sure I will crash once the bright lights of my computer screen are all gone.
I also really wanted to share these:
Defenestration by Brian Goggig

But starting tomorrow/Sunday I'll get back to semi-regular updating (as I'll be back to a semi-regular schedule, free from holiday retail hours).
p.s. this is also why I haven't responded to your comments.  but I have read them.  and do appreciate them, very much.  I'm going to go collapse into bed now.

How long/how planned/where did this idea come from anyhow?

Break Board.

I took a wee blogger break which I a) already told y'all and b) do from time to time.
SO I made this:
It's a compilation of photos that have been piling up in my computer file labelled "For Still" so I can remember to share them on here at some point in time.
From Default
These are from FaceHunter, FotoDecadent, Life Magazine Photo Archives/Gnarlitude, and the Miu Miu website and more, I just don't remember where all of them are from.  Oh! and Fak!
Some Notes:
  • A lot of people are using bullet notes. This reminds me of school and how easy it was to convey information in short form.  Lucky for you I have decided not to use the short form "language" I use for school, because you would NOT understand that.
  • I'm almost done that YSL sweater project.  I just have to actually attach it to something, which I will do on Thursday (I'm very determined)
  • Adobe Illustrator is a pain in the rear.  The Gradient Map tool is the work of the devil.  I don't know why I ever use it.  This has to do with another DIY project I'm doing because I am a) crazy and b) bored with what I see in stores that I can afford.
  • The project that involves Adobe Illustrator is (I think) kinda cool.  I'm excited for how it turns out, Illustrated or not.
  • I came up with yet another diy project which I promise I will not do until I'm finished the other two.  Damn, I do this with books too.  I'm always reading about 3 at a time and it takes me forever, then I complain about it taking me forever to finish a book, even though it is all my own damn fault.

A Light Coming From Somewhere

Another photographer found while doing the daily blog thing.

Recuenco Blows My Mind A Bajillion Time Over

I've been using "bajillion" often lately as an adjective....interesting.

So I've gone on and on before about Eugenio Recuenco's photography, and I have his online portfolio in that long list of links to the right there, but I never took the time to explore his website past the photography. And I'm so, so happy I finally did because I never realised there was a video section.
Nor did I know he directed the commercial for "Infallable Lip Colour by L'Oreal" - who knew?

I really love this Nina Ricci one.

For Loewe. There's another, shorter version as well. Called Quisaz Quisaz Quisaz, but I think this ones tells their "story" better.

All are very good, all retain that "off" quality in his photography, most verge on the more sexual/sensual side of things.

I found it while looking for another short film I saw online once, years ago. Don't you hate it when you remember something clearly but can't remember it's name (thereby not being able to actually find it to share it with others)?
Here is his Dailymotion profile. So you can watch other videos. Or go to his website and to the "films" section.

To finish off:

So I'm Out Of A Job.

And did this.

None of these photographs are mine, but I don't remember where all of them are from.  A combination of Jak&Jill, The Sartorialist, Facehunter, and the like.

I'll see you guys later.

Jealous party, table for one.

Photobucket
via jak&jill.com again.

What is it with this new "heels and details" thing?  With the intricacies of Prada ss08 and those awesome Ungaro shoes and that Miu Miu shoe I saw in the window of Brown's today.  No one ever stared at the ground as much as I did until now.

Maybe it's a sign of the times.  Like.....we're picking one element of clothing, one garment category (wow, I cannot form a thought well), to really exaggerate, really put an emphasis on so that we can either be a) really lazy or b) really frugal with the rest of it.  'Cause you don't need a lot after you have those shoes.
And who doesn't like shoes?  Who doesn't spend on shoes?  Who doesn't crumble when they see a pair of shoes in a store window?  Who hasn't walked into at least one person/pole/mailbox/obstacle in the street while staring at a pair of shoes?

So why not make the one piece that we spend all of our limited fortunes on the one piece that seems to make everyone feel good about themselves?

come to think of it, why do shoes make us feel good/better?

Fight.

Not quite in the mood to do a long exaggerated post about my recent attraction to big, exaggerated collars and long, ironed pleats.  So I condensed it into a Wednesday Night "Computer Crafts" activity.

Pants I Do Not Own

(yet)

Because I would like to find pants like these:

from garance dore & earnest sewn, respectively

Sadly this girl lives in France so I doubt I'll find them here.  The closest thing I  can think of is the Zazo jean from Earnest Sewn, seen beside the pants I don't think I'll ever find.  I like where the rise sits, just at that really flattering part of my waist.  And since Earnest Sewn is one of the lines carried by Winners I have a chance of owning them.

If only they had side pockets (if only everything had side pockets)...

Also: here's a random question few will answer:  Does anyone know a good tailor in Toronto? I need one to fix what I don't know how to fix myself.

Crafty Heights

These are the only close up images of the Prada shoes I could find. If I could find something to highlight that heel, I would. Those little sculptures are the reasons I'd want these shoes. There's also another shoe where the heel has been constructed to look like a sceptre with little crystals and a little bulb and a little everything.
I really hope this trend trickles down to the H&Ms and Forever21s of the world.
Oh Oh! You know what would be really wicked cool?
A pair of black patent heels with a triangular or bulb-shaped wooden heel with a carving of some kind on it. Like a wooden heel made to look like a tree or....some other more creative idea.
I would happily shell out an entire paycheque for something like that.

Wet Wednesday

I don't know about anywhere else, but Toronto is cold, wet, and glum today.

So I stayed in, slept in, and did that.
and was left with only a teensy bit of cabin fever.
